This Italian group, with the great CD ‘Like Little Garrisons Besieged’ (2009) and two intriguing 7”s made in collaboration with Oren Ambarchi and Steve Roden under their belt, are back with a new release on Bocian Records with even greater momentum. Their music could be labeled as “post psychedelic rock ambient”. Its dreamlike soundscapes and mysterious, nocturnal atmospheres, hardly volatile, don’t waft upwards like some fluff, and the faint motorik skeleton and angular moans from the saxophone don’t seem to drive anything here. Everything here reverberates, crackling and creaking disturbingly, producing the entire chromatic scale. Much as ‘Reverie’ might seem the most accessible release in Bocian’s catalogue, it has little to do with ‘safe’ ambient. Rather, it’s more of sound guidelines revealing countless surprises.

This is a split album comprised of two very different tracks, which are nonetheless built around the same original material. The tracks could be described as a suite, divided in movements, of around 20 minutes each, which allow for the specific characteristics of the two musicians to emerge. Sigurtà delves primarily into drone-based territories drawing sonic landscapes oscillating between the ethereal and the concrete, often harboring a beat whereas López works with and within the minutiae of sound, penetrating into the most intricate textures and creating rhythmic patterns with glitches and fragments of sound, while keeping to a well defined and steady musical path. The Sigurtà / López split sees two generations, two worlds and two different approaches to music coming together on one single album.

Luca Sigurtà is very active in the electronic music scene, playing in solo and with Harshcore and Luminance Ratio. In Hookers he composes a cold and frozing atmosphere, with gusts of noises and drones together with a bare drum, the song ending surprisingly with an ecstatic mood. Noise veterans Panicsville plays Paura nella Città dei Morti Viventi mixing old schoool industrial together with their strong oniric and terrifying fantasy: organ, synth drums and samples are used to compose a song that can give you a perfect idea of their great narrative skills. Side B is screenprinted by Frohike.
